Flapjack is a classic English oat bar made by combining rolled oats with melted butter, golden syrup and brown sugar, pressing the mixture into a tin and baking it. The edges turn lightly crisp while the centre stays soft and chewy, holding together neatly when sliced.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Melt the wet ingredients

4 min

Melt the butter, golden syrup and brown sugar together in a pan over low heat.

2

Add the oats

2 min

Stir in the rolled oats until well combined.

3

Press into the tin

4 min

Press the mixture evenly into a tin lined with greaseproof paper.

4

Bake

13 min

Bake in an oven preheated to 170°C for 13 minutes, until the edges turn lightly golden.

5

Let it cool

8 min

Let the tin cool for at least 8 minutes before cutting; slicing it while hot will make it fall apart.

Reminder

Always let it cool before removing it from the tin — cutting it while hot makes it fall apart. If you prefer a crisper texture, you can extend the baking time by 2-3 minutes. Allergens: contains milk and dairy (butter).

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

If you cannot find golden syrup, the same amount of honey works; the flavour turns slightly more floral but the bar still holds together nicely.
