Colombia's extravagantly loaded street hot dog, perro caliente colombiano, is made by placing boiled sausage in a bun and layering it with pineapple sauce, mayonnaise, mustard and crushed potato chips. Balancing so many sauces and toppings takes real skill, making it a showstopping piece at party tables.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Cook the sausages

10 min

Boil the beef sausages in water for 8 minutes, then drain.

2

Prepare the sauces

15 min

Simmer the crushed pineapple with its juice in a pan for 5 minutes to thicken, and mash the tomato in a separate bowl into a sauce.

3

Assemble the sandwiches

20 min

Place the sausage inside each bun and add, in order, the mayonnaise, mustard, tomato sauce and pineapple sauce, then top with onion and grated cheese.

4

Serve

10 min

Scatter the crushed potato chips on top and serve right away.

Reminder

Keep the order when adding the sauces; mayonnaise and mustard should go on first, then the pineapple sauce, or the layers blend together and look messy. Allergens: contains egg (mayonnaise) and milk (cheese).

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

For a big party, you can prepare the sauces ahead in separate bowls and let guests layer their own sandwiches; it's both a fun and practical way to serve.
