A family grill in Diyarbakır's Diclekent quarter, built around coal-fired döner served with a free spread of sides — and no alcohol on the menu.
In the Diclekent quarter of Kayapınar, one of Diyarbakır's newer western districts, Onur Ocakbaşı runs on a single idea: döner grilled over coals and carried straight to the table with rice or on its own. Around that centerpiece sit lentil soup, yoghurt, cacık and a spread that arrives free with every order: tomatoes, onions, rocket, charred peppers, çiğköfte, a tomato-paste salad, sumac-dressed onion, lettuce, two kinds of bread, lemon and a semolina dessert. Soft drinks, ayran, soda and şalgam, a salted turnip-and-carrot juice common across southeastern Turkey, round out the drinks list; nothing alcoholic is poured. One diner's review made the point almost by accident, noting the meal's only shortcoming was that there was no rakı to go with it, an unplanned confirmation that the house serves nothing stronger than tea. The dining room, set among the villas of Diclekent, keeps a family rhythm: a closed play corner for children, quick turnaround even through the weekday lunch rush, and table service reviewers describe as warm from the door onward. Portion size and meat quality are the two points that keep coming up in customer feedback, alongside the semolina helva sent out at the end of the meal. It reads, in short, as a neighbourhood grill built around one well-executed dish rather than a sprawling menu.
