Miroğlu Kadayıf & Dondurma (Karaköprü)

Karaköprü is the district that grew north of Şanlıurfa over the past three decades — broad boulevards and new housing rather than the old walled centre — and Miroğlu's second counter sits on Mehmet Hafız Boulevard inside it. Opening there marks a shift from the bazaar customer toward the neighbourhood and the family. The business began in 1997 as a single dessert shop opened by Ömer Miroğlu and now works from two addresses, this one and Haliliye. Seven items are published: cheese künefe, cheese künefe with pistachio, oven kadayıf, billuriye, pistachio burma kadayıf, and şıllık with clotted cream in pistachio and walnut versions, with ice cream kept as its own section. The distinction between them is practical. Cheese künefe — unsalted fresh cheese between two beds of shredded pastry, fried in a copper dish and drenched in hot syrup — has to be eaten where it is made, at a table, while burma kadayıf and billuriye are sold by weight and carried home.
