Aksu Kokoreç
A street-food spot on Dereboyu Caddesi in Beşiktaş's Ortaköy quarter, known for kokoreç and fried mussels, with a Bosphorus-view terrace.
Cihangir Kebap's İskenderun outpost, set inside the Equestrian Club grounds in Meydan, bringing Adana kebab and pit-cooked büryan to Hatay.
The address does much of the explaining here: this Cihangir branch sits inside the grounds of the Equestrian Club on Yaşar Doğu Caddesi in the Meydan quarter of İskenderun. A restaurant on club land rather than a street frontage means space around it, room to park and the option of eating outdoors — a layout that suits the long family and group table rather than the quick plate. The company is from Adana and brings its kitchen with it. Its published menu runs to eight headings: kebabs, grills, oven breads, büryan, wraps, sides, desserts and drinks. Adana kebab appears under the kebab heading, while büryan — lamb sealed in an oven and cooked slowly in its own fat — is kept as a line of its own. The drinks list is published item by item and is entirely without alcohol: ayran, şalgam, sodas, fruit juices and soft drinks. İskenderun is Hatay's port district and has a strong culinary tradition of its own; this is a Çukurova kebab house operating inside it. Hours and prices are not published.
