Elit Pastanesi

Pamukkale district, formerly named Akköy, took its current name under law no. 6360 in 2012 and is Denizli's second most populous district, made up of 61 neighbourhoods; the Pamukkale (Hierapolis) travertines, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988, lie within its boundaries, as does Pamukkale University. Denizli itself is known in the Aegean Region as an industrial, export and trade hub, sitting on a plateau at the foot of Akdağ (Babadağ)'s northern slopes, lightly cut by streams feeding the Aksu Çayı, a tributary of the Büyük Menderes; the modern city is a relatively young one, built a few kilometres from the ancient site of Laodikeia.
